Perhaps the best installment ever created of the Paris-born supper club, Buddha Bar Monte-Carlo finds a quaff home inside a former 20th Century theater just off Place du Casino. Inside, a towering two-story foyer is capped-off by an ornate 30-ft. ceiling and giant Buddha that presides over a series of spaces that include a more formal restaurant and lounge bar. As electronic lounge anthems fill the air, visions of the Orient unfold through opulent banquettes covered in rich red upholstery, secret dining rooms reminiscent of opium dens and grand terrace that attracts locals and visitors alike.
The Food
An east-meets-west menu of Asian specialties includes ala carte and prix-fixe menu options with appetizers like scampi spring rolls, yellowtail tartare and lobster salad far better than we expected. More adventurous Vietnamese rolls, pan-sautéed foie gras and wok-fried frog legs convert those that were expecting just another Asian supper club menu. Main course include Peking duck, Thai red shrimp curry and wok-fried beef as well as less ambitious five-spice chicken orlackluster black cod.
